Children's Educational Theatre is inviting the community to attend Celebrating the Best of Salem, its annual fund-raising event, on Sept. 17 at Chemeketa Community College's Building 6 Auditorium.
The production replaces the traditional Talent Night fund-raiser.
The theme this year is "Around the World in 80 Minutes" to highlight the variety of cultural experiences in our community.
The fund-raiser begins at 6 p.m. with a reception and silent auction and continues with entertainment at 7 p.m. There will be wine and food.
Entertaining will be local performers, including Sig Paulson, Blind Driver, Dr. Michael Freeman, Dr. Slate Wilson and Kara Quello.
Theater supporters have donated Willamette University and Oregon Symphony concert tickets, guitar lessons, karate lessons at Ireland's ATA Black Belt Academy, a gift basket from Tripoli's Import and Gift Shop, Jon Heder ("Napoleon Dynamite") memorabilia, gourmet mushrooms, a Japanese dinner and other items for the silent auction.
Paul Strauch, Bruce Fontaine, James Southworth and Ann Kresge are among the participating artists donating work.
This year there is a partnership with a local arts organization, Artists in Action, which will feature an art gallery and silent auction items.
